Gig i!
Q:
Help! My hair is thin
and lifeless, no matter what products I use? Is there a
prom hairstyle for me?
A:
Some hair types, especially baby fine hair, will be
problematic even if you do everything right. Your hair
type just doesn't have the body that will create an
elegant style for your special night. But not to worry!
You have options! Many of
our readers have told us that once they purchased their
first hairpiece, they were hooked. They make a great
instant hairdo, for prom
or any time!
Here are a few popular options available to you.
Know the pros and cons of each procedure so you can make
the right choice about your precious locks.
Cold
Fusion
The newest way to attach extensions is called cold
fusion bonding in which tiny sections of human hair are
attached to natural hair near the root with a flexible,
keratin-based polymer. The extensions can be as long as
24 inches and some say they are undetectable. The
process takes up to five hours, costs between $1500 and
3500.00 and lasts up to 6 months.
Weaves.
In this technique, extensions are braided to the under
layer of natural hair. But despite the lack of glue, the
hair can feel bumpy and look lumpy, especially on women
with fine hair. The process takes up to four hours,
costs about $1200 and lasts about a month before the
braids start to loosen.
Hair
Pieces
Clip-on pieces have none of the commitment or bonded
fused or woven extensions. Our model, right is wearing a
cascading spiral on a butterfly clip. All she needs to
do is brush her hair back and clip it on in a snap.
They can range from short
bangs to long ponytails, to 60s style falls and are
great fun for an evening out. The color should be a
perfect match.
Pieces can cost as little as $25.00 for ready-mades to
$6000.00 for custom-made human ones.
